Today
Today was definitely a good day. Quite possibly one of the best I have had in quite a while. And it was all just little things going well.

A Little Story
Once upon a time there was an administrative savant known as Cally. She could run an office like a finely tuned machine. She enjoyed the challenge and predictability of her work.
Then arrived the monster, a horrible entity known as a PPO which had been fiendishly designed to separate poor Cally from her sanity.
Finally, Cally admitted defeat: the monster could not be tamed nor slain. So she planned her escape and all was going well for her future freedom.
Then, on her last day, arrived the mystery package. It wasn't really a mystery as far as the contents were concerned: she knew by feel the package had applications. The mystery was, how badly would the applications be screwed up?
So with the tender of the monster near at hand, brave Cally opened the package and determined the three applications inside were indeed very badly done, incomplete and unsigned.
"See, this is what I'm talking about," Cally said to the tender. "Look at these things! If I hadn't already given notice, this would have put me right over the edge."
"Oh, I know," the tender said sympathetically.
"No, really," she replied. "I mean it would have put me right over, fire axes, stuff burning, body count, not a good time!"
And so Cally expressed her relief to be free of the monster's horrific influence, and now plans to live happily ever after and never again work in health care for any amount of money.

Friends
I don't have a lot of friends. I don't want a lot either. Social interaction, even with people I like, exhausts me, and sometimes I even get something like a hang-over following intense connections.
But there is no doubt that friendship is good for the soul, even for those less socially-dependent like myself. I recently made the acquaintance of a fellow I'll call "Silent D" who is bright and funny and a pleasure to chat with.
Neither of us is good at small talk, which is fine, because we don't waste time with frivolity when there are so many interesting things to discuss.

Wild Ink'd!
Got my first tattoo yesterday afternoon:

The labyrinth has special symbolic meanings for me, as well as being a practical choice for permanent body art: I now can "walk" it with my fingertip whenever I need a moment to reflect, calm down, or refocus.
The simplicity was also a good choice, being my first tattoo and one of the first done by the artist. (I am far happier with the result than he is, but he's a perfectionist and I just wanted my labyrinth, dammit. :) )

Blogger Hax!
I have a blog at LJ I don't use much any more; the one thing I thought it had over Blogger was the lj-cut tag. But after a bit of looking, I found a couple of offerings that make it all better.
Method One, from Vin at Beta-Blogger for Dummies is good if you do a lot of longer posts. Format of blog itself isn't great, nor is the bright pink background, but the how-to is well laid out and easy to follow. (I suggest copy-n-paste to a document to save your eyes.)
More about this method ...
Vin's method creates a "read more" link that opens the post's individual page in a new window or tab.
It's quick and easy to do; one piece of code goes into the blog template, the other into the post template.
There are additional tweaks and twitters for link color, size, wording, and so on. Definitely worth checking out if you have a lot of long posts.
But since I don't, I quickly found the "read more" link annoying on my short posts where there is nothing more to read than what has appeared on the main page.
Method Two, from Gaby at the Categories Blog, is the one I'm using now: better suited to a blog like mine that has posts of varying length.
More about this method ...
Gaby calls these cuts "expandable post zones," and that's a good term for it: one click to expand the text, and another collapses it back into the Internet aether.
The best part is that it doesn't add an unnecessary link when there is no text to reveal. That is just awesomeage.
To be fair, though, Gaby's post isn't as newbie-friendly as Vin's. For example, my template doesn't include the " < style type="text/css" > " tag; so when I followed the instructions as written, the code didn't work. I had to go back into the template and add the tag myself. Not a big deal, but for anyone unfamiliar with hand-coding, this omission might make them pass on this otherwise excellent tweak.
Both blogs offer plenty of other great stuff for bloggers: certainly worth a click or two to peruse.
